Double-Chip Bars

I was raised German Mennonite and guests were frequent in our home. A favorite recipe for 2 generations, these bars were always a quick-to-fix dessert or snack when visitors arrived.

1 c. sugar

1 c. light corn syrup

12-oz. jar crunchy peanut butter

4 c. doughnut-shaped oat cereal

12-oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips

11-oz. pkg. butterscotch chips

Combine sugar and corn syrup in a saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil. Cook until sugar is dissolved. Fold in peanut butter; stir well. Stir in cereal; spread into an ungreased 13"x9" baking pan. Melt chocolate chips and butterscotch chips together in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring to blend. Spread over top; slice into squares. Makes 15.
